Care Connection seeking nominations for ‘Engage at Every Age’ Awards

Care Connection for Aging Services’ senior centers are seeking nominations for people in your community who exemplify this year’s theme for national Older Americans Month, “Engage at Every Age.”
The agency will honor an individual in each of its 22 commmunities as a culmination of Older Americans Month in May 2018.
For 55 years, Older Americans Month has been observed to recognize older Americans and their contribution. Led by the Administration for Community Living’s Administration on Aging, the observance offers the opportunity to hear from, support, and celebrate the nation’s elders.
Care Connection is looking for people 60 or older who live in a manner that exemplifies such engagement in a variety of ways.
“We know that we are serving a population that is engaged in the community in many ways, and we believe this award will be a way to recognize these individuals,” said Diana Hoemann, Executive Director of Care Connection, an area agency on aging with senior centers in 22 cities. “For this honor, we are seeking nominees from throughout our cities and counties.”
The award emphasizes that people are never too old (or young) to take part in activities that can enrich their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The theme also celebrates the many ways in which older adults make a difference in their communities – participating in activities that promote mental and physical wellness; offering wisdom and experience to the next generation; and continuing to learn at any age.
“It is becoming more apparent that remaining socially engaged can improve the quality of life for older adults,” Hoemann said.
The agency will select one senior from each community, with the goal of making this an annual award program. All of the nominees will be honored at a special luncheon in the center, where one award recipient will be announced.
