Care Connection for Aging Services’ Concordia Senior Center will offer a free, seven-week course to help older adults live well with diabetes.
The course, the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP), will include seven two-hour sessions, at 1 p.m. Fridays, beginning Aug. 3. Registration is free but is required. All the sessions take place at the center, 710 Main, in Concordia.
Some 25 percent (or 11.2 million) of people age 65 and older have diabetes.
The DEEP course aims to lessen diabetes risk factors, including obesity and high blood pressure; to provide information about diabetes; and to give people the motivation to change.
Among the topics are diet, exercise, weight loss, monitoring, medication, stress management, smoking cessation, and care of the feet, teeth and eyes.
During the program, class members will learn from the instructor and proven curriculum, as well as each other, in a supportive environment.
To register for the program, call Lifestyles Coach Samantha Schnell at 1-800-748-7826.
If you would live too far from Concordia but want a class in your area, let us know that, too.
