Care Connection for Aging Services’ senior centers are seeking nominations for people in the community who exemplify this year’s theme for national Older Americans Month, “Connect, Create, Contribute.”
The agency will seek nominations from the 22 communities where Care Connection operates senior centers.
For 56 years, Older Americans Month has been observed to recognize older Americans and their contribution. Led by the Administration for Community Living’s Administration on Aging, the observance offers the opportunity to hear from, support, and celebrate the nation’s elders.
Care Connection is looking for people 60 or older who live in a manner that exemplifies one or more of these activities:
•Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
•Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
•Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.
As volunteers, employees, employers, educators, mentors, advocates, and more, older adults offer insight and experience that benefit the entire community.
To meet the criteria, people 60 or older must live in a manner that exemplifies such activity.
“We know that the older adults we see every day connect, create and contribute in a variety of ways. They serve their peers, younger people and the community as a whole,” said Diana Hoemann, Executive Director of Care Connection, an area agency on aging with senior centers in 22 cities. “As people age, remaining socially connected can maintain and improve the quality of their physical and mental health.”
The agency began the awards program last year and decided to make it an annual endeavor. All of the nominees will be honored at a special luncheon in the center, where one award recipient will be announced.
Nomination forms are available at every center and online at goaging.org under the helpful links section. Click here.
The deadline is May 30. Please mail, fax or email the nomination form and information to the local center or to “Outstanding Older Adult Award,” Care Connection for Aging Services,” P.O. Box 1078 Warrensburg, MO 64093. Email to information@goaging.org or fax to 660-747-3100.
