Care Connection for Aging Services has teamed up with Legal Aid of Western Missouri to present a series of online sessions to provide older adults with answers to some of the most-often asked questions when it comes civil law.
Attorney Jeffiner Thompson, of Legal Aid of Western Missouri, will present four sessions beginning 10 a.m. on Mondays online via Zoom. Attendance is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
Here is the lineup:
–Aug. 10 – Landlord/Tenant Issues including tenant rights, eviction proceedings, service animals/comfort animals, and additional rights that a tenant of a government-funded facility may have.
–Aug. 17 – Public Benefits including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, and Food Stamps – what to do if denied, or a claim is denied. Will also explain recent changes at Social Security and Family Support Division buildings.
–Aug. 24 – Non-Probate Estate Planning will discuss Health Care Directives, Powers of Attorney, Beneficiary Deeds and will explain reverse mortgages.
–Aug. 31 – Family Law with an emphasis on guardianship (what to do if a family member is seeking guardianship of you; what to do if you need to seek guardianship/conservatorship of a family member or grandchild.
“We are very pleased to add this series to our Learning Connection because older adults often have legal questions that will be addressed in these sessions,” said Rona McNally, Director of Special Projects for Care Connection. “I think folks will find that Jeffiner Thompson can provide practical guidance in common-sense language that we all can understand. Legal Aid serves older adults without income requirements.”
