Care Connection Senior Centers will remain closed to the public until at least March 31, and perhaps into April or later – depending on directions from local, state and federal health officials concerning the COVID-19 Virus containment. We simply do not know at this time.
We have canceled all face-to-face center programming and activities until at least April 15.
However, we still are delivering meals to the homebound, adding regular center participants to the home-delivered meal routes, and arranging for curbside meal pickup at some locations. Some of our centers’ meals will be delivered frozen and less often so that we limit exposure of volunteer drivers and clients.
If you want to receive a home-delivered meal or want to arrange for meal pickup, call the nearest center. You must be 60 and older to receive meals. We will be offering one entrée option for now.
We always follow the U.S. National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe food handling practices. Also, our center staff members are concentrating on extra cleaning and sanitation measures during our closure to the public.
Our Coordinators, Head Cooks, Care Managers and other staff will be available by phone or by leaving a message during normal business hours. The Care Managers will be able to help you with information and assistance.
We are increasing our Telephone Reassurance Program to help keep in touch with participants – both the home-delivered meal recipients and folks who are used to being out and about but now are isolated in their homes. If you or someone you know would like a periodic phone call, please let us know. 1-800-748-7826 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our website will contain agency news on the most recent steps we have taken to respond to the virus and the resulting closing of our centers to the public.
The federal government has recommended that older adults and people with health concerns stay at home as much as possible. We realize that you may be spending more time than usual alone, and we want to help pass the time in some productive ways.
The Care Connection Facebook Page, www.facebook.com/Care-Connection-for-Aging-Services, as well as the senior center Facebook pages will have posts that include brain teasers, fitness exercises you can do at home, and some interesting videos that might be useful now and later. Please like your center’s Facebook page as well as the Care Connection Facebook page to see those ideas. If you would like to be added to our weekly Care Connection News email post and other alerts as necessary, please call 1-800-748-7826 or email email@example.com.
If you have any specific questions about the COVID-19 virus, please visit the cdc.gov website and health.mo.gov. Call the Missouri Novel Coronavirus information hotline at 1-877-435-8411 with questions you might have.
We remain committed to serving people 60 and older in whatever ways we can.
