Care Connection for Aging Services will present a “Living a Healthy Life” workshop series free on Zoom beginning April 29, 2021.
The course is designed to help individuals and caregivers improve healthy behaviors and overcome the challenges of chronic conditions. This workshop is interactive, and participants will have the opportunity to learn from each other.
Living a Healthy Life consists of six sessions of two and a half hours each on Thursdays starting April 29, 2021 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pre-registration is required by calling 1-800-748-7826.
The course is offered at no cost to people 60 and older and their caregivers.
The workshop uses proven practices based on an ongoing series of studies conducted at Stanford University School of Medicine. The course provides a path for older adults to enjoy life with conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes.
“Many times, we cover materials that you may have heard before, but we put it in a different way. For example, everybody knows you are supposed to eat correctly,” said Lifestyles Coach Shery Fogle. “We discuss it further and provide specific examples in a way that it hits home with you compared to when you hear it from a doctor or someone else.”
–Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance.
–Relaxation techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation.
–Appropriate use of medications.
–Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals.
Participants will receive materials including a textbook, relaxation CD, a journal and a cookbook. Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.
