Here is a quick tip from our friends at WellMed Charitable Foundation:

If it is hard for you to stand up from a low chair or couch, make the seat higher. Add a firm cushion on top of the seat. If this is added to a slippery surface, like wood, place a non-slip liner between the seat and the cushion.
