Caregiver’s Corner: Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
June is National Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s can be both challenging and rewarding. Here are some actions that everyone can take to spread awareness and support.
Take Charge of brain health
- Challenge your mind and keep learning. (Care Connection offers Dementia education through Dementia Friends and now Dementia Live).
- Participate in regular exercise. Care Connection does offer free exercise classes in person and via zoom. See website for time/dates.
- Protect your head from injury.
- Be smoke free.
- Control blood pressure.
- Manage and/or prevent diabetes.
- Eat healthily.
- Maintain a healthy weight.
- Sleep well.
- Stay social (Care Connection offers a 9 week support group for caregivers called Stress Busters, check website for times/dates).
Go Purple!
- Wear purple to support Alzheimer’s awareness and/or participate in a walk to End Alzheimer’s. For more information check out the Alzheimer’s Association.
